Ellerbeck Country Lodge is located just outside the quaint old-world town of Clocolan, in the eastern Free State, 135 km from Bloemfontein and 365 km from Johannesburg. The lodge is nestled between the Korannaberg and the Maluti Mountains, overlooking magnificent sandstone formations, carved over millions of years by wind and water. Their typical brilliant display of gold and copper cliffs have made this part of the world famous worldwide.
The many caves in the Korannaberg have been providing shelters for the Koisan people and more recently to the Kora tribe (“those who judge”) who chased the Koisan in the mid-19th century and after whom these mountains are named. Many caves display exquisite paintings from both these eras. Soon after, the Kora people were chased westwards by the Basotho, who in turn were chased beyond the Caledon River in 1867 during the British occupation of the area.
Today, this area stands a stone throw away from the picturesque towns of Ladybrand – and its historical sandstone buildings-, Ficksburg – and its cherry Festival- and further away, Bethelem and Clarens. All these attractions are accessible from the Ellerbeck Country Lodge within a few minutes.
Ellerbeck Country Lodge offers a peaceful alternative to those small touristic towns and offer visitors a spectacular world of rock formations and untouched nature: the perfect backdrop for walks and bird watching.
Ellerbeck Country Lodge offer the visitor a range of accommodation options, activities and facilities like a day spa, a wedding venue, a shooting range and a conference centre. All set against the tranquil backdrop of a beautiful natural environment. Welcome to “Big Sky Country”
